when your commute is too long

What do you do when your commute to work is too long? A while back I asked some of my friends for the top things they look for in any job, and I was fully expecting most of the answers to be about the pay or the schedule. The most common answer was the commute! (Schedule was the next most-common.)

It got me thinking: what should you do if your drive to work is too long?

I tried to come up with as many ideas for changing that as I could, but in the end, I think it boils down to what you choose to do with all that drive-time. Here’s the video I made about it:

And that was just one way to use it! That’s my favorite way, and at the time I made this video I was also talking about Step 3 to using your job, which you can read about HERE.

But there are so many ways you can use a long work commute to get things done or do something meaningful - especially if you aren’t the one driving!

-Call a friend or family member who could use some cheering up or to know you’re thinking of them

-Write a business plan, or a book, or your goals, or details about a project you want to start (and if you’re driving, just record yourself talking out your ideas)

-If you aren’t driving, send a bunch of messages/texts to people and let them know you’re thinking of them, or thank them for something you really appreciate about them, or give them a compliment about something you’ve noticed they do well

-Also if you aren’t driving: work on a blanket or soft toy, or something else you can donate to a hospital, nursing home, homeless shelter, etc.

-Or do a search for how to help a cause you care about, and watch/listen to/read about it and get ideas

-Find a podcast that puts you in a great mood, or gives you confidence, or that makes you feel good about people and the world, and listen to it while you drive

That list I typed out is just what I came up with on the fly, but there are so many ways to use your drive to work, and make it become something that makes you feel energized, and accomplished, and happy. Please let me know your thoughts and ideas in the comments!
